KIFF film fest Fri night opener: High School 9-1-1, where Darien CT teens run ambulance service on deadly interstate! Glenwood Arts 5:30, one showing only

Experience a heart-stopping, inspirational year with Darien EMS-Post 53, the only ambulance service for the 20,000 residents of Darien, Connecticut, as it covers one of the deadliest stretches of Interstate-95, responds to over 1,500 emergency calls, and is run by high school teenagers. The foundation of Darien EMS 53 is the empowerment of young people through adult and peer mentorship. Posties are taught a multitude of managerial, critical thinking and emergency medical skills and then empowered by being given the responsibility to implement what they have learned by actually running their own EMS organization. The goal of the film is to inspire and empower young people as well as motivate the adults in their lives: parents, educators, school administrators, community leaders to create opportunities for them to learn by doing and make a difference in their communities.

Call friends and government officials
to come meet filmmaker Friday at 5:30,
95th & Mission (lower level/Ranchmart),
one showing only at Glenwood Arts,
first film of this year's KIFF--
Kansas Intl Film Festival.
What if we started doing this in Kansas City
and suburbs?
